Hello to all,
I wish to introduce myself. My name is Carla Scott. and I am the student adviser at Shalvey Campus for Year 9 in 2008. I am also a teacher in the HSIE faculty.
My role as student adviser is one of a support officer. Together with my assistant student adviser Matthew Broadhead, I am responsible for the academic and social welfare of all students in my year group.
All students in Year 9 are SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS. All students are aware of the Shalvey Campus PBL policy and take great responsibility for their behaviour and learning.
As a student adviser, I ensure that all students are happy and safe and getting the most they can out of their education. I monitor behaviour and progress in class and am the first point of contact for parents. I liase with the Home School Liaison Officer to ensure all students are meeting the mandatory attendance rate of 85%. I coordinate a uniform plan to ensure all students are dressed in full school uniform at all times.
A major part of my role is also to mould to students of my year group into responsible young citizens. Year 9 is a particularly delightful year group and has been keen to make contributions to their community. In 2007, students donated over 1000 cans of food to a local charity, they also supported the Breast Cancer and Butterfly foundations. In 2008 our students raised over $500 towards the Cancer Councils annual Daffodil Day appeal. Year 9 have developed a social conscious and shown a real empathy for those who are suffering or struggling in some way.
In 2008 the students participated in many cohort excursions and camps. These activities help the group to learn how to function in a cohesive manner and to behave appropriately when in public. In 2008, Year 8 attended a camp help at Telford, Port Hacking, Surfing lessons at Manly Beach and their annual Big Day out at Ripples Pools.
The year group work hard to earn these days out. Not only do they earn these rewards through their positive behaviour they also work hard to raise money to make these events affordable for their parents. In 2008 students worded hard to fundraise through selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts, chocolates and running a Bunning's BBQ and that has ensured that all excursions are accessible for all students.
