Year 7

To all parents and Year 7 students, 2009,

Welcome to Chifley College - Shalvey. My name is Mr Miller and I will be the year advisor for year 7 in 2009. Along with Ms Milson (Assistant Year Advisor) we look forward to working with you on a day to day basis.

2009 promises to be an exciting time for Year 7 students. Many students will have to adjust to a new phase in their lives and consequently all students will experience different emotions in their first year of high school.

I believe Ms Milson's and my role is to do the following

Get to know each of the year 7 students

Be approachable and supportive to both students and parents when a student is anxious or has trouble with day to day schooling

Work with fellow teaching staff to fulfil the potential of each student

Promote year 7 achievements

Organise group activities that create group cohesiveness

To aid Ms Milson and I in your journey, each student in year 7 2009 can endeavour to do the following.

Be prepared in terms of schooling. This includes bringing an appropriate bag to store your equipment, needed books and also a healthy food choice for both recess and lunch.

Wear the proper school uniform. Wearing a uniform not only helps keep each student safe, but is a sign of pride in yourself and the school. Please note slippers are not school uniform. Appropriate footwear needs to be considered for many practical areas of the school.

Be open to new ideas and ways of doing things. Change is inevitable, embrace it.

Make sure you ask for help if you need it. Whilst teachers always take interest in their students, teachers are not mind readers. Sometimes we need to hear your words to help.

Enjoy your time in high school.

Finally remember that Chifley College - Shalvey works on the motto 'Safe, Respectful, Learners'. By including this into your daily work ethic you will succeed in 2009.
